Chemical Substances / Water Resources

To ward off environment contamination, we are working on reducing emission volumes of volatile organic compounds (VOC).
We are also striving to reduce usage of precious water resources.

Results of Reducing Atmospheric Emission of VOC

In FY2010, Group overall VOC emission volumes dropped from FY2009's 654 tons to 535 tons: a drop from 359 tons to 249 tons at domestic sites, and a drop from 295 tons to 286 tons at overseas ones.
The drop in emissions reflected a higher operating rate of RTOs (solvent exhaust gas treatment equipment). (See G1.)

Results of Reducing Water Consumption

In FY2010, Group overall water usage decreased from FY2009's 3,928 thousand cubic meters to 3,900 thousand cubic meters: a drop from 1,093 thousand cubic meters to 1,046 thousand cubic meters at domestic sites, and a rise from 2,835 thousand cubic meters to 2,854 thousand cubic meters at overseas sites. The domestic drop reflected greater progress with in-house recycling. The overseas increase reflected the increase in production volume. The water usage per unit of net sales figure decreased by 8% from FY2009's 2.01 to 1.85. (See G2.)
