Safety and Environmental Risk Management

Various types of regularly scheduled training are implemented to respond to sudden accidents, disasters, and other risks, with the objectives of early discovery, rapid response, prevention and mitigation.
The TAIYO YUDEN Group reconfirms appropriate procedures and strives for continuous improvement.

Firefighting and Evacuation Training

Removing Soil Contamination

We completed our soil and ground water contamination surveys and made clean-up efforts following the Japanese Ministry of the Environment guidelines in FY2003. Since then, we conduct these surveys whenever we tear down a building. No surveys were conducted in FY2011, but since previously buried waste was discovered, it was disposed of properly according to the Waste Disposal and Public Cleansing Act.

Environmental Accident Occurrences

At TAIYO YUDEN (Sarawak) in Malaysia an environmental accident occurred in October 2011 releasing a small amount of wastewater outside of the premises. It was confirmed that the wastewater contained no toxic substances and did not affect the river or living creatures.
An obstruction occurred at the wastewater processing facility causing the water flow to stop, so the holding tank used prior to treatment overflowed. A full-tank alarm sounded and employees responded, but a small amount of wastewater flowed into the side gutter.
