Achievement Levels for Medium-Term Occupational Health and Safety Targets

All employees participate in health and safety efforts based on the Fundamental Principle of Safety and Health outlined in the TAIYO YUDEN Group Safety and Environment Charter and implemented according to OHSAS18001 specifications

Fundamental Principle of Safety & Health and Targets

In order to realize our health and safety philosophy of "creating a workplace where employees can work without anxiety," the TAIYO YUDEN Group draws up group-wide medium-term plans. The medium-term plan sets forth action targets which establish achievement levels for each of the 5M's (Man, Machine, Material, Method, Media), and a frequency rate and danger ratio for numerically evaluating the results of these efforts. Activities are carried out in this way to prevent work-related accidents.

FY2011 Work-related Accidents, and Health and Safety Indicators

We did not achieve our medium-term target of less than 0.12 for the FY2011 accident frequency rate. (See G1.)
There was the same number of workplace accident victims (at least one workday lost) as in the previous fiscal year, and the accident frequency rate was also the same.
We did not achieve our medium-term target of less than 1.00 for the FY2011 danger ratio. (See G2.) The reason for this was an increase in the number of workplace accident victims (not involving workdays lost) from the previous fiscal year.
The accident severity rate for FY2011 was 0.0051.
The task now before us is to boost our 5M activities to achieve our health and safety medium-term plans and our ultimate goal of zero industrial accidents.
