To prevent indoor and outdoor crimes, security cameras have increasingly been deployed in various locations. Among them, 360-degree rotatable cameras that can monitor a wide range within a single unit are effective. Several issues exist, however, with regard to wires and slip rings that have been used for data communications with rotating objects. Wired communications impose restrictions on rotation, whereas slip rings are inferior in terms of reliability and high-speed communications performance.
Use of TAIYO YUDEN's visible light communication technology solves those issues. Visible light communication is suitable for communications with rotating objects. Moreover, use of a visible light communication system allows the use of high-speed data communications carried out in environments where radio waves may receive interference and where wired communications would require extensive engineering work, such as security camera data communications, building-to-building communications, and communications along roads and bridges.
In addition, visible light communication systems can be considered to have advantages in terms of security since they do not require special regulatory compliance and unlike radio waves are hard to intercept.
Visible light communication technology is also the optimum choice for data communications in environments where radio waves are unstable, such as elevator inspection sites, inside tunnels, and sewer pipe construction sites.
