Helping to reduce power consumption of AI PCs and other electronic devices
TOKYO, October 5, 2026 - TAIYO YUDEN CO., LTD. has commenced mass production of three new wire-wound metal power inductors in its MCOIL™ LSEL series. The lineup includes the LSELC2016KKTR24M0N product (2.0 x 1.6 x 1.0 mm). These power inductors are designed for use as choke coils in the power supply circuits of NPU-equipped AI PCs and other electronic devices.
The LSELC2016KKTR24M0N features a DC resistance of 0.01 Ω, which is about 50% lower than that of the conventional LSENC2016KKTR24M product (2.0 x 1.6 x 1.0 mm, nominal inductance 0.24 μH, DC resistance 0.0197 Ω).
Mass production began in September 2026 at TAIYO YUDEN's subsidiary, FUKUSHIMA TAIYO YUDEN CO., LTD. (Date City, Fukushima Prefecture). Samples are available at 50 yen per unit.
In recent years, there has been growing demand for longer battery life in electronic devices, including notebook PCs, due to advanced AI functionality and higher memory and storage speeds. Notably, power supply circuits are required to ensure fine-grained power control to operate NPUs, which are processors optimized for AI inference, when using AI functionality on PCs and other devices.
Power inductors, which are used in such power supply circuits, require greater efficiency--achieved through features such as lowering DC resistance to reduce power loss, heat generation, and power consumption.
To address this need, TAIYO YUDEN has commercialized new wire-wound metal power inductors in its MCOIL™ LSEL series. Improved metal materials have lower DC resistance compared to previous products, while lower core losses have reduced DC and AC losses, resulting in increased efficiency. These features help to reduce the power consumption of AI PCs and various electronic devices, including memory and storage equipment.
TAIYO YUDEN will continue to meet market needs and strive for higher efficiency and performance.
