All solid-state lithium ion secondary battery (all solid-state battery)

Distinct from general lithium-ion secondary batteries, all solid-state lithium ion secondary batteries use a solid electrolyte between the positive and negative electrodes. Since all solid-state lithium ion secondary batteries have no liquid inside, they have no risk of ignition or explosion, and are thus attracting attention as highly safe next-generation batteries. There are two types of all solid-state lithium ion secondary batteries: those that use oxides for the solid electrolyte and those that use sulfides.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitor

An aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a type of capacitor with a roll cake-like structure in which paper (electrolyte paper) impregnated with electrolyte is sandwiched between aluminum electrodes and rolled up. Compared to multilayer ceramic capacitors, aluminum electrolytic capacitors can be used at a higher voltage, and have a large capacitance. However, aluminum electrolytic capacitors are large-sized; thus, it is difficult to miniaturize them. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors have a limited life due to liquid leakage (dry-up).

Capacitor

Some types of capacitors are also called condensers. Capacitors are electronic components with various functions such as voltage stabilization, removal of unnecessary noise, or allowing specific signals to pass through by utilizing the property of storing and discharging electricity and of allowing the passthrough of alternating current but not direct current. Capacitors are used in most electronic circuits and indispensable components of electronic devices. There are various types of capacitors such as multilayer ceramic capacitors and aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Electric double-layer capacitor

Electric double-layer capacitors utilize the physical phenomenon known as the electric double layer effect, in which ions are arranged at the interface between the electrode and the electrolyte. An electric double-layer capacitor consists of electrodes, electrolytes, and separators (to prevent contact between the positive and negative electrodes).
Electric double-layer capacitors have a very high capacitance compared to multilayer ceramic capacitors and aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Since electric double-layer capacitors have a very short charge and discharge time, they are suitable for power source backup applications and other applications in which a large amount of power is needed immediately.

Capacitance

Capacitance is a physical quantity that indicates the storage capacity of a capacitor. It is expressed in the unit of F (farad).
To the extent that multilayer ceramic capacitors are used, the unit F is too large; therefore, μF (microfarad, one millionth of a farad) and pF (picofarad, one trillionth of a farad) are often used.

FBAR device

FBAR stands for Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator. An FBAR device is an electronic component with a filtering function that allows only electrical signals in a specific frequency band to selectively pass. FBAR devices are used in smartphones and other electronic devices.
While a SAW device utilizes waves that travel on the surface of a substance, an FBAR device utilizes waves that travel inside a substance. Compared to a SAW device, an FBAR device is better at filtering in high frequency bands.

HPDP

HPDP stands for High Power Durable Package. HPDP is a thin and highly reliable packaging technology developed by TAIYO YUDEN CO., LTD. An HPDP includes SAW, FBAR, and/or other filter elements that are metal-sealed.

Inductor

An inductor is an electronic component that can convert electrical energy into magnetic energy and store it by using electromagnetic induction. The inductor is sometimes called a coil. Utilizing the property that makes it difficult for alternating current it to pass through it, the component works to stabilize voltage in an electronic circuit or regulate electrical signals.
Inductors are classified as winding type, laminated type, and thin film type. Winding type inductors have a conducting wire wound around the center (core). Laminated type inductors have a coil pattern in which part of the conducting wire is printed on thin sheets stacked in layers and formed spirally.
Thin film type inductors have a coil pattern with metal films that are thinner than the sheets used for the laminated type. Semiconductor manufacturing technologies are used for the films.

Lithium ion capacitor

Lithium ion capacitors are a hybrid capacitor in which the principle of electricity storage used in electric double-layer capacitors is applied to the positive electrode, and the principle of electricity storage used in lithium ion secondary batteries is applied to the negative electrode. Lithium ion capacitors have a larger storage capacity than electric double-layer capacitors. They also have a longer life than lithium ion batteries, and can charge / discharge in a short period of time.

MLCC

MLCC stands for Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor.

Mobile communication device / Communication device

Communication devices, including mobile devices, are an electronic component with a filtering function that allows only electrical signals in a specific frequency band to selectively pass. These devices are used in smartphones and other devices for the purpose of high-speed communication and high-quality telephone speech. Our mobile communication devices include FBAR device and SAW device.

Module

A module is a set of featured components designed for specific functions. Module packaging unifies and standardizes connection (interface) specifications with other systems or peripherals, and allows modules to be easily added/replaced.

Multilayer ceramic capacitor

A multilayer ceramic capacitor is a type of capacitor in which thin ceramic dielectrics and electrode layers are alternately stacked.
Compared to aluminum electrolytic capacitors, multilayer ceramic capacitors are smaller and more resistant to heat.

SAW device

SAW stands for Surface Acoustic Wave. A SAW device is an electronic component with a filtering function that allows only electrical signals in a specific frequency band to selectively pass. SAW devices are used in smartphones and other electronic devices.
While an FBAR device utilizes waves that travel inside a substance, a SAW device utilizes waves that travel on the surface of a substance. Compared to an FBAR device, a SAW device is better at filtering in low frequency bands.

TLSAW ™

TLSAW stands for Trapped Leaky Surface Acoustic Wave. In conventional SAW devices, pseudo surface acoustic waves generated by bulk waves (waves that propagate inside, not on the surface) cause a loss, but TLSAW technology enables the reflection of the waves to be controlled and the energy to be efficiently contained. Compared to conventional SAW devices, TLSAW-based devices are capable of handling wider bandwidths.
